Merriam-Webster's Elementary Dictionary

Elementary dictionary features more than 36,000 entries with 200 new words and senses from technology and life sciences, such as alternative energy, friend and STEM. Definitions are enriched with nearly 1,300 quotes from classic and contemporary children's literature, many of which are from text exemplars listed in the Common Core Standards. 250-word history paragraphs and more than 120 synonym paragraphs provide additional reference for children. More than 900 vibrant, colorful illustrations, photographs and diagrams provide an in-depth look at various subjects. Special sections include geographical names, signs and symbols, an introduction to Greek and Latin roots in English, a guide for writers, and a list of literary works used in the text.
